Vodafone has announced plans to raise its minimum call charges by 25% next month, resulting in higher mobile phone bills for its contract customers. From September 1st any calls that exceed a customer's monthly tariff allowance will be charged at 15 pence per minute, up from 12 pence. Charges for premium rate and non-geographic numbers will also increase from 15 pence to 20 pence. However, Vodafone's mobile tariff prices will remain the same. Vodafone said the move has been made in response to regulatory pressures. It comes after the EU forced mobile operators to cut international roaming charges. According to the Sun newspaper, the company said: "We are confident that 99% of customers will see an increase of less than 10% in bills." T-Mobile and O2 also increased their prices in July. Last month, Vodafone announced group revenue of £9.8 billion for the quarter ending June 30th.
