A consultation has been launched by Ofcom to examine the mobile phone market in the UK and improve the services being offered to customers. The telecoms regulator is seeking opinions from mobile phone users on how to enhance service levels and reduce bills. It aims to identify areas where extra regulation may be needed and those that could benefit from more lenient rules. Ofcom said the consultation has been launched in response to an increase in the number of complaints being received by mobile phone customers. Chief Executive Ed Richards said: "With significant market and technology developments under way, now is the right time to ask some tough questions about the future approach to regulation." A blog has been set up to allow consumers to express their opinions on the mobile phone market and discuss them with others. The consultation will close on November 6th. Last week, the European Commission raised concerns about possible overcharging by mobile phone operators on calls being made across borders.
