Following the success of its broadband and home phone offerings, the Post Office is reported to be considering a move into mobile phones. The company launched residential broadband and home phone services earlier this year and has already amassed more than 500,000 customers. According to the Guardian, it is now hoping to build on its achievements by setting up its own mobile phone network to rival existing operators. Speaking to the newspaper, Martin Moran, head of telecommunications at the Post Office, confirmed that the company is interested in providing a mobile phone service. However, he stressed that such an offering was still "in the planning" stage and if given the go ahead would not be rolled out until next year. Meanwhile, the Post Office hopes to have one million customers signed up to its broadband and home phone service by 2011. The £19.95 a month package includes line rental, free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, free weekend calls to UK mobile phones and broadband access up to eight megabits per second with a five gigabyte monthly download limit.
