Personalised handsets 'would boost take up of mobile services'

28 October 2008

If consumers were able to personalise their mobile phone handsets they would be more likely to use new mobile services and applications, it has been claimed. According to mobile device management technology provider Mformation Technologies, mobile phone users would also be willing to pay a premium for personalised devices. Spokesman Rob Dalgety said: "If we look at other markets and other service markets and how they work, if you look at the main principle, if you target the services consumers need or the consumers think they need, you're going to increase usage." He said research by Mformation Technologies shows that 86% of consumers believe having a personalised handset would improve their overall mobile experience as well as their relationship with their mobile phone operator. They survey also reveals that 68% of consumers find it frustrating to purchase mobile phones with features and applications they know they will never use.
