The mobile phone retailer Phones 4U has been accused of breaching consumer protection laws by the communications regulator Ofcom.
A joint investigation by the watchdog and Trading Standards revealed that the company had been mis-selling mobile phone contracts.
Ofcom said Phones 4U gave misleading sales information to customers regarding network coverage and details of tariffs.
It also failed to replace or provide refunds for faulty handsets and was found to have unfair terms in its returns policy.
The six-month inquiry was launched after customers lodged complaints about the retailer, which has now made changes to its sales practices and policies.
In a statement, the company said: "Phones 4U has given Ofcom a series of undertakings to ensure that similar issues do not rise again. We feel that this matter has now been fully resolved."
Phones 4u has over 440 stores throughout the country and claims to sell more new mobile phone contracts than any other retailer on the high street.
