Mobile phone maker Sonim is to launch what it claims is the world's toughest handset - able to operate in extreme temperatures and survive falls from heights of up to nine feet. The XP3, which is also 100% waterproof, will be introduced to the US market next year, with a European version reportedly set for launch later. Featuring Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation and a three-mega pixel camera, the handset is able to work in temperature from -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It can also be dropped onto concrete from a height of nine feet without breaking and, according to CRN Australia, can work for more than half an hour ten feet underwater. Sonim said the XP3 is designed for "people who work or play in extreme conditions", such as surfers, rock climbers and builders, CRN quotes. The phone is a successor to the XP1, which was designed to withstand "extreme environmental and industrial conditions".
