More than 6,200 consumers in the UK have helped raise the reputation of personal loan suppliers in the country by coming together to select the industry's best performing firm.
The Personal Finance & Savings magazine spent three months polling its readers for their views with the majority of feedback suggesting general consumer confidence with loan suppliers is exceptionally good.
Alliance & Leicester was acclaimed as the nation's Best Personal Loans Provider in 2005, improving on last year's Highly Commended award it received for the same category.
The supplier beat off competition from Tesco and Halifax, who came second and third respectively.
Andy Bayes, head of Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans, welcomed the decision to reward the efforts of his firm.
"We pride ourselves on giving our customers a great loan experience, both in terms of the customer service they receive and great value we offer," he said.
"We operate in a very competitive market and we have to be at the top of our game to get recognised in this way."
Mr Bayes continued: "To enable us to build on this success, and as part of our commitment to keep all our call centres in the UK, we are investing and creating a significant number of new jobs in our Personal Loans Centre of Excellence in Leicester."
