Loans help repair damaged homes

16 June 2005

More people look set to take out home improvement loans with Brits forking out a massive £1.9 billion to pay for damage done to their homes by beauty-appliances, according to a new study.

Halifax Home Insurance found that more than 25 per cent of people had damaged furniture or carpets in their property as a result of using appliances such as hair straighteners or heated rollers.

Vicky Emmott, senior underwriting manager at Halifax Home Insurance said: "So many of us are now using beauty equipment that, not so long ago, was only ever used by the trained professional.

"A lot of these devices can be set to extremely high temperatures and, when left unattended or on flammable surfaces, they can soon become perilous, potentially causing serious damage to individuals and their property."

Sometimes such damage can be very expensive, but a well chosen loan can help make sure you are not left out of pocket.
