Men look for loans online

27 June 2005

Men are more likely to apply for a loan online than women, according to new research.

Halifax found that men are 50 per cent more likely than women to shop around for a loan on the internet.

Single people are also more likely to look online than married people- 46 per cent of all online applications were found to be made by singles.

The head of business development at Halifax unsecured personal loans, Max Vialou-Clark, said: "The number of online applications has more than doubled in the last three years and shows no signs of slowing,"

"However," she added, "the gap between the number of men and women applying online shows no signs of narrowing and has remained constant for the last few years."

Londoners are the most web-wise, accounting for just over one in five of all applications made online.
