Loans can be the write stuff

14 July 2005

A new survey of 700 children's writers and illustrators published Wednesday has revealed that some earn as little as 2p an hour.

The Not All of Us are Rowling In It report from the Society of Authors' revealed that nearly a third of children's authors earned less than the national minimum wage, £8,827, while only a third earned more than £20,000 a year.

According to the Guardian, one of this country's leading children's authors, Gaye Hicyilmaz cannot afford email access or mobile phone, even though her ten novels have been translated into 13 languages.

However, aspiring and successful writers alike need not suffer for their art, as a self employed loan can free up time and allow greater focus on writing.
