Nationwide seeks to snare loan customers

14 November 2005

Nationwide has reprised an offer designed to encourage consumers to switch to one of their personal loans, with the deal available between now and the end of the year.

The building society will offer defectors its lowest ever rate of 6.7 per cent, and will supplement this with a cheque for £50 to each person who switches from one of most other major high street lenders.

As Steve Clode, Nationwide's marketing manager, explained, this offer is timed to provide people with the perfect pep ahead of the busy festive period.

He said: "Unlike credit cards and current accounts, personal loan customers tend to remain with one provider for the life of the loan, which often means they are losing hundreds of pounds through paying higher rates than they need to.

"Not only will consumers benefit from our extremely competitive rate of 6.7% but, if they are currently with one of the nominated lenders, they will also be given a £50 Christmas present for their trouble."

Eligibility depends on the customer having at least £3,000 of outstanding balance, with 12 months of payments left to run.

The offer was last run in August and September of this year.
