Cost and climate crucial for car buyers

21 March 2007

With the issue of climate change hot on the political agenda, more and more people are taking environmental concerns into consideration when purchasing their car, according to AA Personal Loans.

The organisation's quarterly 'Deals on Wheels' research found that environmentally-conscious consumers had increased from 6% to 20% in the past year.

But the financial side of buying a car still holds sway for potential buyers, with 31% saying their priority was a reliable car that was not costly to maintain.

This represented an 11% rise from 12 months ago, but according to Lloyd East, Director of AA Personal Loans, car buyers were still losing out on money matters.

"Our concern at the AA is that the savvyness people show in the cost of running a car is not mirrored in how they buy them," he said.

"Too many people take expensive forecourt finance, not shopping around for a good deal. Convenience is costing Brits millions every year."
