Women look for bargains, not quality in cars

29 March 2007

Women could be putting themselves at a greater risk than men when it comes to buying second hand cars, according to a recent survey.

Making the right choice on a car purchase is essential, especially if you are spending money from an unsecured personal loan or other finance deal, and getting the most for your money is vital.

However, the study by global information services provider Experian found that women are less likely to perform a thorough check on the car's history and status than men, and are more concerned with the price.

Kirk Fletcher, Sales Director of Experian's Automotive division, said: "Most male used car buyers tend not to take as many risks and are willing to pay more for the right make, model and brand. Women, however, are more concerned about finding a bargain."

But financing your purchase on either a new or old car is also a problem for many consumers, as a study earlier this year by uSwitch found that UK motorists are expected to waste £228 million on loan deals offered by car showrooms.
