Consumers should have a better understanding that they can save money by scouring the market for the best personal finances deal, such as for a loan or credit card, uSwitch has said.
According to the firm's Head of Home Services Tim Wolfenden, however, many consumers find it a "hassle" to shop around.
In addition, he suggested that this could be because of the customer's feeling of ease and convenience through sticking with a tried-and-trusted loan or card provider.
"It seems like [consumers] believe it's a hassle to switch," he commented.
Using the energy market as an example, he continued: "We see that around 45% of the UK never take advantage of switching their gas and electricity supplier.
"I think they're probably more savvy on the insurance and personal finance side of things - but overall, I think…probably not enough."
Mr Wolfenden also suggested that independent price comparison sites such as uSwitch were a good place to get the "comprehensive picture" of a marketplace that is required for seeking out the best deal.
