Gas and electricity prices likely to rise, says Centrica boss
He noted that energy suppliers are now operating in a "very different commodity price environment", although groups have still called for them to reduce prices.
GMB National Secretary Gary Smith told the Daily Mirror: "We're asking the government to look at redirecting some of these excessive profits back to the most vulnerable and needy energy users in our society."
He added that such customers should see reductions in their energy bills.
uSwitch.com recently suggested that the profits of British Gas should spur on other suppliers to cut costs for their customers.
It suggested that switching to a new supplier could help people save significant amounts of money on their annual bills.
