Consumers throughout the UK are being urged to save money on their water bill by saving water.
The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has sent out messages to several regions of the country, explaining how people can play their part in saving water and save money on their water bills too.
Regional branches of the consumer organisation have advised customers to take water saving measures such as turning off the tap when brushing their teeth, having showers instead of baths and installing a water-saving device in the cistern of their toilets.
The consumer group is also encouraging the implementation of water meters, arguing that they can significantly reduce the amount of water used.
CCWater Eastern said that over 56% of its region's domestic customers were on a water meter already. It advised that those who live alone or have a small family could end up paying less with a water meter than those in similar circumstances who pay by a rateable value.
Catherine Harvey, chairman of CCWater Eastern, said: "We are aware that metering is one of the tools used by water companies to maintain the supply/demand balance, and that on average consumption is reduced by 10-15% by those customers who opt for a meter.
