Major pipeline project from water firm

26 April 2006

Over 1,000 households in Shropshire are set to benefit from an £800,000 water pipeline project.

Severn Trent Water is undertaking the £801,000 investment, which will see 5,285 metres of water mains piping renewed, benefiting 1,051 properties in Oswestry. Leakages should be reduced as a result of the work.

Severn Trent's leakage manager Mike Bishop said, "We spend £120 million every year modernising our pipe network. More than three million homes, shops and offices are connected to these pipes and we are also spending more money to find and repair any leaks quicker."

He added: "Severn Trent invests more than £1 million every day to improve its waste and service to its customers, who tell us that their top priority is the safety and reliability of their drinking water, so we are continuing to invest in our huge network of pipes and works to make sure Midlands people continue to get the best tap water in the UK."

Work should be completed by the end of October and no major disruption to motorists or residents is expected.
