A consumer group has praised Anglian Water for its performance, but urged the company to keep customers in mind when considering price rises in the light of the rise in profits it recently announced.
The eastern branch of the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) also asked the company to ensure that it was alert to recent customer demands for water meters.
Anglian Water has consistently hit its leakage and sewage flooding repair targets and is on course to avoid water restrictions this year.
Catherine Harvey, CCWater Eastern chairman, said: "Profits do have the benefit of helping Anglian Water to deliver improvements consumers are looking for. However, customers in the region have seen increases in their water and sewerage bills over the recent years, including 7.25% last year (2005-06).
"Since all company revenue comes from customers, they are understandably asking questions about whether bills have been allowed to rise too high."
She added: "Anglian Water customers want to see improved services, particularly around resolving complaints more swiftly, quicker provision of water connections for new home builders and responding effectively to the recent increase in customer demand for water meters."
