Changes in UK consumption will help to alleviate water shortages according to the director of Waterwise.
Jacob Tompkins, company director, said that it was only changes in people's water consumption habits that would help to change the current situation in the UK.
Recent figures have shown that the use of water in worse affected areas decreased by 15% last year – a figure which Mr Tompkins told Channel 4 News was "extremely impressive".
He added that with fairly small changes in behaviour it showed what the British public could achieve.
He said: "It is listening to the messages that the water companies and others have been putting out about simple things like turning the tap off when you brush your teeth, taking shorter showers, not watering your garden.
"Obviously the hosepipe bans in certain areas have had an impact and I think now that the drought is possibly finishing it is time for us to look at how we can adjust the drought orders, the drought permits and the hosepipe bans so we can allow people to continue watering their garden in an efficient way during future droughts."
