CCWater comments on Tendring incorrect bills

8 September 2006

The Consumer Council for Water Eastern (CCWater Eastern) has expressed its disappointment concerning the case where customers of Tendring Hundred Water have been receiving incorrect bills.

These errors have been occurring over the past 18 month period and have been caused by the company miscalculating income in the run-up to the latest price review.

Tendring Hundred Water estimates the errors have resulted in the average customer's bills from 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 being overcharged by £5.

Catherine Harvey, CCWater Eastern spokesperson, said: "We endorse Ofwat's intention to verify independently the recompense due to customers.

As our prime concern is that customers should receive corrected bills as soon as possible we welcome Tendring Hundred's decision to re-imburse customers in a way which reflects the true impact of this error - including interest. However, we continue to press for compensation in the form of enhanced customer service."

"Customers need to be confident in the arrangements between water companies and the regulator, and that their interests are properly protected."
