Southern Water has invested £317 million in projects across Sussex, Hampshire, Kent and the Isle of Wight over the last 12 months.
The investment was part of a larger scale five-year programme which will pump £1.6 billion into the service Southern Water provides.
Running until 2010, the programme aims to improve customer service, upgrade the quality of tap water, protect water resources and improve the quality of waste water.
The investment equates to £1,200 of investment for each and every household in the Southern Water region.
Niall Mills, Southern Water spokesman, said: "The level of investment illustrates our commitment to being a customer-focused company. In the first year of the five-year programme the company has invested more than £317 million and customers are already seeing the benefits.
"The progress in delivering the programme illustrates the company's commitment to improving the service it offers customers by investing heavily in its infrastructure."
