CCW to discuss drinking water issue

19 September 2006

The Consumer Council for Water (CCW) will study the issue of drinking water quality at a meeting in Blackpool next week.

CCW members will discuss the topic of the north-west's drinking water supply after an assessment by the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

Committee members will also be asking consumers for their views on the standard of the region's drinking water and also on what percentage they believe meets quality standards.

Andrea Cook, chairman of the Consumer Council for Water North West, said: "Consumers depend on a reliable supply of clean safe water delivered to their taps. Water quality standards in the region and across Engalnd and Wales are, in general, very high and account for relatively few complaints to our offices.

"However we will be asking the experts for their assessment of United Utilities current performance."
