Yorkshire Water has selected National Poetry Day (October 5th) to capture the beauty of its landscapes and reservoirs in rhyme.
The company, which owns more than 140 reservoirs and 72,000 acres of land in the region - is hoping to find a wordsmith who can complement Yorkshire in the manner of greats like Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath and Ian McMillan.
There are no age restrictions for entry into the competition and any form of poetry is eligible as long as there are references to a Yorkshire Water location in the title or the verse.
Rob Salmon, corporate affairs director, said: "Obviously, established authors are welcome to join in but it would be a bonus to discover an upublished writer who shares our love of the land.
"All we want to do is write a few verses reflecting what they believe people enjoy about walking, cycling, riding, sailing or fishing on Yorkshire Water and send it in for an assessment by our judges.
"The best examples will then be published on our website in November where visitors will be able to vote on them. The one with the most votes will then win a £100 prize as well as recognition at their favourite location."
