Yorkshire Water creates bog for school

19 October 2006

Yorkshire Water is assisting a Hull primary school in its quest to create a bog.

Estcourt Primary School in Marfleet, Hull – which has joined the Go Wild For Science project – will benefit from a peat bed laid by Yorkshire Water and Laing O'Rourke.

The new bog is intended to become a wildlife area which schoolchildren can use as a study aid during their classes.

This project is part of the wider scheme by Yorkshire Water in its Cares Challenges pledge which aimed to get hundreds of company employees helping good causes in the Yorkshire region over the last 12 months.

Paul Gamwell, Yorkshire Water project manager, said: "The Hull area has had to put up with quite a bit of disruption over recent months while we've worked on the mains so the Marfleet School was a natural choice when we were looking for ideas to support.

"We hope generations of children will benefit - and not just from the new wildlife garden. The pipes we've either relined or restored should help protect the quality of drinking water for many years to come."
