CC for Water Wessex says check your bills

23 October 2006

The Consumer Council (CC) for Water Wessex has issued guidance for consumers who want to avoid any nasty surprises in their water bill.

With Christmas on the way, the last thing consumers will want is an unexpected high water bill to pay and with this in mind the CC for Water Wessex has produced information to make sure consumers are not paying over the odds.

Consumers who want to avoid finding excessively high bills are being advised to check the water bill as soon as it arrives in the post and to contact their water provider immediately if there are any concerns on the amount required to pay.

If the bill appears to be too high, the problem is most likely to be with a misread meter or a leak. The CC for Water Wessex advised the public to check that the amount on their bill correlates with the usage on the meter.

Those who are not on a meter can ask for a revised bill to be sent. If the amount still appears to be inflated, it could be caused by a leak in the supply, in which case the consumer should contact their water supplier.

CC Water has published suggestions for saving water, including showering instead of having a bath, washing fruit and vegetables in a bowl rather than under a running tap and using the minimum amount of water needed when boiling a kettle.
