Waterwise Marque launched to aid consumer efficiency

30 November 2006

Consumer group Waterwise presented its Waterwise Marque this week, a scheme which will highlight water efficient devices in an effort to make it easier for environment conscious consumers to choose the best products.

Environment minister Ian Pearson welcomed the marque, stating that it would raise the profile of water efficiency, help consumers to make informed choices in product selection and provide a reward for manufacturers leading the way in saving water.

"It is good for the environment, good for consumers and good for business," he added.

The marque itself will comprise of a small logo incorporating the Waterwise symbol, a water drop and a tick with the phrase "Award winning water saver".

This is not the first time a consumer group has attempted to raise awareness of water efficiency as director of Waterwise, Jacob Tompkins, explains: "Many other countries throughout the world, including Australia, America and other European countries, already provide consumers with water saving information and it is time for the UK to take the lead.

"Consumers can help reduce waste by making small behavioural changes and by choosing more water efficient products," he added.
