With Christmas just around the corner, the Consumer Council for Water (CC Water) has issued five money and water saving tips to help consumers get through the holiday period as economically as possible.
Added mouths to feed at this time of year can often lead to endless piles of dirty dishes, but CC Water is appealing to consumers to only switch on the dishwasher once the machine is full, or to use a bowl, rather than running dishes under the tap, if they are washing-up by hand.
CC Water is also advising consumers to avoid the temptation to run a hot bath in the morning and instead opt for a money-saving shower.
Other tips to save water include fixing any leaking taps, investing in a 'hippo' or a 'bog hog' to save water on loo flushes and to only fill the kettle with as much water as you actually need.
Dame Yve Buckland, chair of the CC Water, commented: "Water is a precious resource which we all need to value.
"Taking steps to conserve your consumption not only helps the environment but will also help those with water meters cut their bills, which is something that would be very welcome post Christmas!"
