Fairford residents get their water back

16 January 2007

Thames Valley Water has announced that residents in Fairford no longer need to boil their water for drinking and cooking purposes now that normal services have been resumed.

The restrictions were put into place after concerned customers called Thames Valley to report that their water supply was discoloured.

Cloudy, dark water was thought to have been caused by silt falling into the well that feeds the Fairford water treatment works, following extremely heavy rainfall in the area.

Since the reports, extensive tests have been carried out and Thames Valley's results showed that the water has always been fit to drink, despite its murky appearance.

All residents that were affected by these arrangements will receive a notice in the next few days, confirming that normal service has now been resumed.

If consumers have concerns over the clarity of their water supply, they are encouraged to get in touch with their supplier as soon as possible.
