Low water-pressure problems hit Burnham-on-Sea

26 January 2007

A technical fault resulted in thousands of residents in Burnham-On-Sea being left with little or now water after water pressure levels dropped on Thursday night.

According to Burnham-on-sea.com, "water supply issues" affected residents in Burnham, Berrow and Highbridge, but officials at Bristol Water, the local supplier, pledged to have the problems fixed by later on today.

Locals fumed at the inconvenience on the website's forum, complaining that many had not been able to wash themselves and that when they contacted the supplier, they were told that Bristol Water "knew of a problem and were currently working on it".

Paul Kelson, Bristol Water's spokesman, told the website that the problems had occurred due to the overnight maintenance work overrunning. He also confirmed that the water supplier had apologised to all of its customers who were affected by the pressure problems.

"Our planned overnight work to change some of the equipment in the Brent Knoll section of our network over-ran," Mr Kelson said.

"This meant we couldn't deliver the normal water pressure to the Burnham area overnight and during the early hours of the morning, for which we apologise."
