Consumers needs will be put first, assures CC

13 March 2007

The Competition Commission (CC) has promised to put the needs of the consumer first when considering plans to combine Mid Kent Water and South East Water.

A merger between the two Australian-owned water suppliers could see price rises for over two million customers in the Kent region, according to Kentnews.co.uk.

Peter Davis, the commission's Deputy Chairman, told the website that the CC would examine how the merger could work without having a damaging impact on customers and their bills.

He continued: "We will now be discussing appropriate measures, taking into account any customer benefits that might arise from the merger."

In related news, Mid Kent Water has recently issued a warning to its customers not to be fooled by fake water inspectors - claiming to be from the supplier - who use the company's name to gain entry to the house and commit burglary.

Consumers are advised that genuine Mid Kent Water employees will drive a clearly marked van, carry a Mid Kent Water ID card and will always attempt to prearrange a meeting by phone before arriving on consumers' doorsteps.

Residents who are suspicious of someone claiming to be from the supplier are encouraged to call 0845 603 2 603 to check if the staff member is genuine or not.
