Three Valleys water works

21 March 2007

Consumers are set to benefit from a £4.2 million investment programme to a water network supplying residents around Borehamwood and Shenley.

With 26 kilometres of water pipes in the area believed to have burst 233 times between 1999 and 2004 and expected to continue to burst, Three Valleys Water is hoping to stem the flow.

The group also hopes that the scheme will improve the water quality for residents in Borehamwood and Shenley.

The work is being conducted on the 70-year-old water mains network from this month and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Peter Darby, Managing Director of Three Valleys Water, said the scheme represented a small tranche of a much larger investment programme.

He added: "Without this investment, the mains would continue to deteriorate, causing bursts, leaks and disruption to service."

Older and more vulnerable customers are also being encouraged to register their special needs on a safeguard scheme.
