With warm weather arriving for much of the UK and many more people looking to enjoy the delights of their gardens, the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has offered tips for saving water this year.
There are seven springtime water-saving tips to ensure that water is not wasted over the coming months.
Gardens needn't suffer at the same time and the benefits will also be seen on consumers' water bills.
For example, gardeners are advised to use a trigger hose as sprinklers are particularly wasteful, while over-watering can prove harmful to plants in any case.
Furthermore, homeowners can seek to protect their garden from wind by installing fences or hedges, to reduce water loss from evaporation, as well as considering plants which cope better with dry weather.
Dame Yve Buckland, Chair of CCWater, explained that consumer action over water will help water companies provide a better service through the drier summer months.
"Thanks in part to consumers' efforts to reduce their non-essential water use last summer, water companies were able to navigate the drought - with only one drought order coming into force," she said.
"By minimising waste when water is plentiful, we make it easier for ourselves and the water companies to overcome the driest spells."
