A Leicester woman has received 3,000 from her water supplier after her home was damaged by a sewer flooding due to inadequate repairs.
Susan Lygo, 60, won the damages from Severn Trent Water after a long battle for reimbursement for a number of sewer flooding incidences that caused major damage to her home.
Mrs Lygo, from Anstey, witnessed severe damage to the front of her drive, as well as kitchen units and valued personal belongings.
After contacting her local BBC radio station Mrs Lygo was able to pursue her damages claim through the Consumer Council for Water Midlands.
Sir James Perowne, Chair of the Consumer Council for Water Midlands, said: "Once I was contacted by the radio station and spoke to Susan in person I understood how upsetting this whole episode was, but I could not understand why the matter was taking so long to get sorted out.
He urged consumers with similar complaints to come forward to gain help promptly: "As with any water customer across the region, we would encourage you to come to us if you have an unresolved matter, and we will try to get a result for you.
He added: "I'm very pleased that this water customer has been given the compensation she deserves, and I'm pleased that Severn Trent acted so quickly in this case. I hope this swift approach will be the start of things to come when dealing with all of their complaints."
