The Prime Minister has raised to 24 million the funding set aside by the Government to get flood water cleared from homes in central England.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has offered a further 10 million on top of the existing 14 million proposed to fight the floods at the beginning of the month.
Responding to the announcement however Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary Peter Ainsworth gave no more than a cautious welcome to the money, stating: "In truth, in the greater scope it doesn't look like it's going to go very far."
The news comes just as flood water is starting to subside in and around Gloucestershire, despite recent information stating that 340,000 affected homes will nevertheless be without running water for the next two weeks.
At present the army is providing around three million litres of water daily to those without a regular supply, and have had to employ an escort due to fears of looting.
Despite the water subsiding there are still concerns that water in the Thames may still cause more damage to housing.
