Water firm United Utilities has announced that flooding in Oldham will be "a thing of the past".
The company has revealed a 4.3 million, ten week plan to redevelop sewerage systems to prevent further flooding that has plagued the area for several years.
Project Engineer George Finegan said of the plans: "We are carrying out this work due to the number of flooding incidents to local properties over the past few years, and this persistent flooding has been caused by a lack of capacity in the local sewer system.
"After digging some shafts into [Roundthorn Road] we will use a boring machine to install the pipe. This method will allow us to carry out the necessary work without having to dig up the whole road."
Coming at a time when flooding has affected much of central England in the worst incidence for 60 years, the news will no doubt be a welcome relief to residents that have seen the destruction sever flooding can cause.
