Every one of the homes that lost their water supply because of the recent flooding in Gloucestershire over the last couple of weeks will have their supply restored by the end of today, it has been confirmed.
At present, 98% of Severn Trent's homes have a water supply restored, and the final two per cent will be completed by midnight tonight.
Since the Mythe treatment plant near Tewkesbury was flooded ten days ago residents have become accustomed to queuing for bottled water.
In a report carried in the Guardian, Martin Kane, the firm's Director of Customer Services, said: "By the end of [Wednesday] we are hopeful that all customers who were originally affected by the shutdown of Mythe water treatment works will have running tap water.
"We must continue to remind customers that any restored supplies must not be used for drinking, even after boiling. But it's perfectly safe to use for showering, bathing, flushing toilets and washing clothes."
When water supplies have been restored in the recent past, red-faced home owners have had to call the emergency services back out again because they had left taps 'open', causing their homes to flood for a second time.
