Drought website renamed and refocused

2 August 2007

A website funded by the water industry aimed at providing support to drought-stricken areas of the UK - beatthedrought.com - has changed its name and focus, following the recent flooding of much of the UK.

The public service website will now be named waterinthesoutheast.com and will contain information about ways to protect yourself from flooding, as well as debates over whether it has been caused by global warming.

Speaking of the new website Paul Butler, Managing Director of South East Water, said: "Even though the current drought is over and many parts of the country have been devastated by floods, this website still has an important role to play because we simply don't know when the next drought will be.

"That's why we're delighted to support it, as it continues to be a single point of reference for our customers, providing clear information on the current water resources picture, what we're doing to protect drinking water supplies in the long term and how customers can continue to play their part in using water wisely."The website has proved useful to almost 200,000 people since it was set up in 2006, and it is hoped it will continue to provide a useful public service for many years to come.
