Major water improvement for Yorks households

5 September 2007

Householders in Yorkshire are soon to benefit from more than £1.3 million-worth of upgrades to local water mains.

Yorkshire Water will commence work in Keighley next week to reline pipes and fit a pressure reduction valve to improve water flow.

"Some disruption is inevitable for which we'd like to apologise in advance," Project Manager Lee Boshell said.

"However, we hope customers will understand the work is vital if the area is to continue to benefit from a safe, clean and reliable supply of water in the future."

Meanwhile, people living in the Wakefield, Middleton and Belle Isle areas will be able to find out more about forthcoming water maintenance work going on in their areas at special drop-in sessions in local schools and community centres.

"The work is bound to cause some disruption but we're hoping local people will be able to help us keep it to a minimum," Yorkshire Water Project Manager Carol Fairbrother explained.

"After all, they're far more likely to have the local knowledge which could make a difference so it's important they have an opportunity to have their say," she added.

Over £7 million has already been spent on water improvements measures in and around the Leeds area, with projects already completed in Beeston, Meanwood, Headingley, Armley and Garforth.
