Minimum disruption during water improvements

25 September 2007

A water supplier and a local council in the South East have merged their schemes to ensure improvements works cause as little disruption to households as possible. South East Water and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead have joined forces to lay a section of new water main and carry out road surfacing work at the same time.

Both sides have said they hope such a co-ordinated approach "will avoid repeated disruption for local residents and commuters".

Speaking about the project, Infrastructure Manager for South East Water, Graham Webb, said: "We are pleased to have worked closely with the local council to agree the timing of this vital improvement work, and ensure it does not conflict with their planned road resurfacing improvements at the end of October.

"It is vital that we invest and upgrade our water mains network so we can continue to provide our customers with excellent quality drinking water 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."

Echoing these views, Councillor Colin Rayner, the Royal Borough's Lead Member for Highways, Transport and Environment added: "It is absolutely vital for utility companies to work in close co-operation with the council so that we avoid unnecessary inconvenience to out residents and road users."
