Water meters 'can cut costs'

5 March 2008

Consumers who change to a water meter could reduce what they pay each month, according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.

It suggests that some households - particularly those that are occupied by couples or people who live alone - could make significant savings from a meter.

The Consumer Council for Water has a calculator available on its web page that can be used to calculate whether it would be worth it to have a meter installed.

As an example of the money that can be saved, the Manchester Evening News described a three-bedroom terraced house located in Bristol, saying it could reduce its yearly bill by £61 with a water meter.

The article follows a recent report from regulator Ofwat that revealed water bills in England and Wales are set to increase by an average of 5.8% from April 2008, depending on the company.

If you don't have a water meter installed, you could be paying over the odds for your bills. uSwitch.com can help you work out your usage and see if installing a water meter could help you save money. Read our water saving tips too.
