Price guidance released by Ofwat

28 March 2008

Guidance has been released for firms by Ofwat concerning water bills and the limitations on charges for the years 2010 to 2015.

Such information has taken into account consultation that took place in the latter stages of 2007 and Ofwat said the limits will look to generate "best value", reports eGov monitor.

Chief Executive at the organisation Regina Finn stated that water firms will face challenges to make prices fair for consumers at a time when general charges for energy are increasing.

"We are moving towards an approach that promotes real competition and this might include setting separate price limits for different parts of the water and sewerage businesses in the future," she commented.

Furthermore, she said that the company outlined proposals for water firms and asked them to suggest how they will innovate in the long-term, in a bid to keep prices down.

This week, Scottish Water said that it is to plough money into repairs of the system in Renfrewshire and enhance the quality of utilities there.
