A decision to stop supplying a village in Hampshire with water has been defended by the man who made the move.
Harry Marriott stated that his move to end supplies to Tangley Estate came about because he could no longer afford the upkeep of the water system, reports the Basingstoke Gazette.
Mr Marriott, a property developer, added that after legal consultation he found that his firm, Tangley Water, no longer had to offer the utility.
"We gave the consumers plenty of notice and have been continually liaising with everyone," he commented.
His solicitor John Rubenstein added that alternatives were offered to locals but that not everyone wanted these. More than 20 homes were given access to water under the deal that ended this week.
This week, uSwitch stated that the move by Ofwat to fine Severn Trent Water after apparently misleading consumers is a good one to ensure that customers feel in command and important.
