Reservoir site 'could create problems'

Thames Water may go ahead with plans to build a new reservoir on a controversial site to help meet demand.

Proposed locations for the fresh venue include Quainton and Marsh Gibbon, with the latter possibly owned by the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT), reports the Bucks Herald.

Aylesbury Vale district council member for Marsh Gibbon Jackie Phipps stated that there are a number of reasons why the creation of a new water presence could damage the environment.

"There are some rare plants throughout the area, which is why BBOWT bought the area and it would be a shame to put it all under water," she told the publication.

She added that it would be a "real shame" if such species were lost as a result of the reservoir in the future.

Another site at Abingdon has been earmarked as the favoured one by the firm, but these could be used if that meets with problems.

Last week, Thames Water said that it will try to promote the use if water meters in the years ahead so that the liquid is not wasted.
