Northern Ireland Water's Chief Executive Katharine Bryan will quit her position at the end of May after alterations to the company's revenue predictions.
A shortfall in these figures meant that many consumers have been predicting price rises, something that led Ms Bryan to consider her job, reports the BBC.
While the company looks for somebody to replace her, Chairman Chris Mellor will assume the role of Chief Executive.
He told the news provider: "The future is all about the customer and their expectations of what they should demand from a water company."
Mr Mellor added that the "bar" will be raised high and that regulations must also be met in the time ahead.
A Regional Development Committee at Stormont has looked into the mistake and is seeing how consumers will be impacted upon.
The firm says that it is the sole provider of sewerage and water services in the country and has more than 780,000 clients.
