Water pipeline 'will enhance network'

19 June 2008

A fresh water pipeline has been proposed between Liverpool and Manchester that could improve water services, it has been claimed.

United Utilities (UU) stated that the £125 million project could ensure that the network is enhanced in terms of reliability, reports the Daily Post.

Managing Director of Capital Programmes at UU Ian McAulay suggested that this scheme could be one of the biggest it has ever undertaken.

"The engineering challenges are big but the project is vital to give us more flexibility in the future during times of drought or when we need to carry out maintenance," he asserted to the news source.

He added that seven million in the north-west region are entitled to unfaltering supplies.

Construction should go ahead soon, the official also remarked, to ensure that the true benefits are opened up.

The organisation was created in 1995 and has about 8,000 people in its ranks in total.
