Schools in Northamptonshire 'remain closed'

27 June 2008

A number of schools in the Northamptonshire area are still closed following the finding of contaminated water there. Earlier this week Anglian Water revealed that the supply in the area - affecting about 250,000 people - has been infiltrated by cryptosporidium and is giving out bottled water to residents. Investigations are currently taking place to ensure that the source of the problem is found as quickly as possible and that Pitsford water treatment works is a possible location. A spokeswoman at the company advised locals on the best course of action to take to make sure that children are not exposed to the infection. She commented: "We are advising that the bottles delivered to school are taken home by pupils and filled with cooled water from the tap that has been boiled." And if this bottled water is placed in the fridge during the night then there will still be a supply the following day, she added.
