Water complaints website set up in Oxford

13 November 2008

Thames Water customers are being given the chance to air their grievances on a new website that has been set up by Liberal Democrat activists.

Party representatives in the Oxford area had been receiving a large number of complaints from disgruntled customers about their water supplies, the Oxford Mail reports.

In response, they have set up WaterWatch in a bid to document incidents of flooding and sewage problems and give customers a "collective voice" with which to call for improvements in services.

"If we can establish where the problems are happening and where they are coming from, then we can act together to get Thames Water to solve them," said Steve Goddard, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Oxford East.

A spokesperson for Thames Water urged customers to contact the company directly if they experience problems with their water supply so they can be dealt with in an "effective and timely manner".

Thames Water supplies water to 8.5 million customers across London and the Thames Valley and treats sewage for an area covering 13.5 million customers.
