5 September 2008

Around 4,000 households in Lancashire were left without water on Thursday evening when a water pipe burst in a field near the town of Garstang. Repairs were carried out by engineers from United Utilities, affecting numerous residents in Garstang, Forton, Scorton, Nateby and Winmarleigh. According to the Lancashire Evening Post, a spokesperson for the water company apologised to customers for the disruption to supplies and insisted repair work would continue throughout the night. Supplies were restored this morning after the 24-inch diameter pipe was fixed. Residents had been without water since 20:30 BST the previous evening. Meanwhile, around 3,000 homes in West Sussex saw their water supplies cut off after a water main burst in Polegate on Thursday morning. According to the West Sussex County Times, residents in Eastbourne, Polegate, Stone Cross, Westham and Pevensey were affected until around 11:00 BST when supplies were restored.
