A £2 million fine has been handed out to Severn Trent Water after the firm admitted to providing inaccurate leakage information. The Serious Fraud Office carried out an in inquiry in relation to details the water outfit had handed over to Ofwat at the beginning of the decade and found inaccuracies, reports the Independent. Chief Executive at the company Tony Wray said that all those responsible for the errors are not with Severn Trent Water anymore and that measures are in place to ensure that this does not happen again. "There were indefensible shortcomings in Severn Trent's previous management and control systems during the 2000 to 2004 era," he remarked at the Old Bailey hearing this week. Various things were blamed for the false data, such as internal data hindrances, foot and mouth and other problems. Last week, it was revealed that the water supply in Northamptonshire was contaminated with Cryptosporidium.
