Water firm proposes treatment works

9 July 2008

New water treatment facilities may soon by available close to Edinburgh because a pipeline has been approved. Midlothian council gave the go-ahead for the creation of the fresh Scottish Water venue to be based at Glencorse and now further permission has been given for the use of the pipelines to transport water, reports the Edinburgh Evening News. While both of these have to be rubber stamped by the Scottish government, it is unlikely that major opposition will be witnessed, the publication adds. So far the company has been informed that only a proposed pumping station close to the south of Edinburgh will have to be reconsidered. The latest facility is set to offer an alternative to the capabilities it has at Alnwickhill and Fairmilehead and will be near to Pentland Hills Regional Park. Scottish Water is publicly owned and says that it provides 2.3 billion litres of drinking water on a daily basis to its customers.
